Interim storage facility overview diagram
- The Interim Storage Facility is a facility established in Okuma Town and Futaba Town, surrounding TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. It serves as a safe and centralized storage site for soil, waste and other materials generated during decontamination in Fukushima Prefecture until their final disposal.

Status of transportation project
- With approximately 13.73 million cubic metres transported between March 2015 and the end of November 2023, transport has been completed for 46 of the 52 municipalities under subject.
- Removal of the soil and other materials (excluding Difficult-to-Return Zone) from Temporary Storage Sites within the prefecture was mostly completed by the end of FY2021. Currently, the transport of removed soil and other materials is carried out in Special Zones for Reconstruction and Revitalization.
- The prefecture conducts on-site inspections and environmental monitoring in accordance with the safety agreements signed among the national government, the prefecture, Okuma Town and Futaba Town to ensure safety and security.
Final disposal
- The final disposal of removed soil and other materials stored in the Interim Storage Facility will be completed outside Fukushima Prefecture within 30 years of the start of the Interim Storage Facility by March 2045, in accordance with the provisions of [the Japan Environmental Storage & Safety Corporation law (JESCO Act)].
