Once upon a time in a field in Teoka lived a great boss fox named Konpeiroku. Konpeiroku was very good at turning himself into something else, and had won many disguise contests in different places. One day Konpeiroku challenged the fox at Mr. Takekoma's in Sendai to a match. The fox at Mr. Takekoma's said, "I will come transformed into a procession of Sendai clansmen. Wait for me there." Konpeiroku thought to himself, "All right. No hurry for the match. I will be waiting." He waited and waited for the procession to come, but it did not appear. "Maybe he isn't coming because he's afraid of me." After awhile, however, the procession came into sight. When it arrived in front of Konpeiroku, he stepped forward, saying, "I have waited for you for such a long time. I thought you might not be coming." To his surprise, however, it was a genuine procession. According to some people, he was later put to the sword.
