Hi everyone and kia ora. It's now been 2 months since I arrived in this land of snow and peaches. I'll be taking on the CIR job in the Fukushima I.R.G. from Nicola, and will be updating this page with (officially sanctioned) interesting information in the coming months. Like Nicola I am also a New Zealander, hailing from the South Island 'Garden City' of Christchurch, roughly the same size as Fukushima City.

This marks the 3rd time I have visited Japan - I spent a year of High School in Tokyo/Yokohama and a year of university in Osaka, but this is my first time in Tohoku. So far Fukushima looks like a great place to live - the area around Lake Inawashiro and Mt. Bandai is especially beautiful, and Aizu-Wakamatsu has some great historical sights.

In only a couple of months, the climate has already gone from unbearably hot and sticky to an already quite chilly Autumn, with the hills turning into a myriad of red, green and orange as the leaves begin to fall. I'm also looking forward to taking to the slopes when winter hits - I'm a total beginner, but hopefully I'll be a pro by the time I leave! Since my last 2 visits have been to the 2 biggest cities, I'm hoping to get out and see a different side of Japan this time.

While here in Fukushima, I'll be helping organise international events, doing a bit of translation, visiting schools, giving talks about New Zealand and any other odd jobs that might arise. Outside of work I'll hopefully be playing a bit of soccer, and I recently started taking Taiko lessons once a week, which has been awesome. What else? Long walks on the beach, the usual stuff. Hopefully I'll get the chance to travel around and explore some of the interesting places in Tohoku while I'm here.

See you around!
