The Fukushima International Affairs Division is looking for re-contracting JET Programme participants in each of the 7 regions of Fukushima Prefecture to take up the positions of Area Support Leaders (ASL) for the 2012-2013 JET year. Despite the reduced number of JET participants living in the Soso region, we will still require an ASL within the area as the number of participants may increase after April of this year. The position requires someone who is willing to help other JETs in their area should any problems arise in their day to day life and settling into Japan. Anyone interested in this position should talk to his or her supervisor. Your application form is to be submitted to the Fukushima IAD through your supervisor, no later than Feb 14th . The application form and guidelines can also be downloaded from here:

2012Japanese Language Course & Homestay (Updated 16th January, 2012)

Hi to all you new JETs, and welcome to Fukushima! Not long after you arrive in Fukushima we will have a Japanese Language course and homestay programme in Aizu Wakamatsu - Unfortunately Senior High School JETs won't be able to attend due to budget restrictions on their contracting organisation (Fukushima Prefecture), but most Junior High School JETs and Elementary School JETs will be able to take part ~ if you received information about the homestay in the package sent from your contracting organisation, this means you are expected to go, but if not, unfortunately you will not be able to attend.

For those of you lucky enough to be able to attend, it's a great opportunity for you to improve your Japanese, and make some great friends! But to be sure you are put in the right class for your Japanese level, we need to assess how good your Japanese is. This program didn`t run in 2011 due to the Earthquake, however it will be back this year, we are currently preparing the documents and will be posted shortly.
